The Great North American Eclipse eclipse viewing at the Crooked Creek Nature Center
What to know
A shuttle will transport visitors from the parking area of the nature center to the nearby open, grassy fields. ,Families are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the facilities – hiking trails, archery range, creek fishing.
The first 500 visitors will receive free, tested and certified solar viewing glasses or filters.There will be hands-on activities for the first 100 kids, who will get to make a lanyard for their solar viewing filter. The lanyard will include UV-reactive beads that will change color before, during and after the eclipse.
Visitors will be able to safely see sunspots and watch the edge of the moon as it moves across the sun. Educators will be on hand to explain how eclipses affect wildlife behavior, how the temperature changes and something called the 360-degree sunset. Photography experts also will help answer questions and give advice.
PLEASE NOTE: The Fred Barry Crooked Creek Nature Center is normally closed on Monday. They will be open on Monday, April 8, for this special event.
