Bird Walk with Ornithologist Joe Neal

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. this Saturday, March 30, ornithologist Joe Neal will guide a bird walk at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville. Neal will point out and discuss migrating and local species. Don’t forget to bring binoculars and wear good walking or hiking shoes.

Neal is known in the Ozarks as well as nationally for his expertise in and passion for birds. He is the author of many articles and books on birds, including Birds of Northwest Arkansas: An Ecological Perspective and In the Province of Birds. He can also be heard regularly on Ozarks at Large with his recordings of birds. He is active with the Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society.

Located on 86 acres adjoining Lake Fayetteville, the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks include the Carl A. Totemeier Horticulture Center, a plaza and great lawn, nine 2,000-square-feet gardens, a greenhouse and other garden features.

Various themes — children’s garden, four seasons garden, herb and vegetable garden, Japanese garden, rock and water garden, Ozark native garden, rose and perennial garden and sensory garden — are highlighted. It’s also popular as a wedding and reception facility.
