Farm to Fork Raises Awareness of Hunger in Arkansas
Most of us have never had to miss a meal because of lack of food. But many across Arkansas, the United States and the world go hungry every day. Heifer International’s mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and care for the Earth. Feast in the Field is the organization’s effort to generate awareness and raise funds for its programs in Arkansas.
The May 30 event will be held on the lawn of Heifer International Headquarters at 1 World Avenue in downtown Little Rock’s River Market District. A family style dinner featuring local foods and prepared by John Kerkeslager, corporate executive chef from Marriott Hotels, is the center of the soiree which begins at 6:30 p.m. He will be assisted by employees of Little Rock Marriott’s Heritage Grille Steak and Fin.
In addition to the delicious food, the program features Heifer farmers, Heifer’s CEO, Pierre Ferrari, and musical entertainment from Brian Nahlen, and Donna Massey and Blue Eyed Soul.
Proceeds from the event benefit Heifer USA’ s Arkansas program. Support of these initiatives empower small-scale farmers by training them and connecting them to markets that sell healthy food; connect farmers with other growers throughout the state, creating cooperatives and mentoring relationships that improve farming methods and increase production, and support the local food movement, keeping wealth within our community. Attendees are encouraged to come in all white, dressy-casual attire.
