Jacksonport State Park Museum Opens New Exhibit March 2

Discover how historians, archeologists, genealogists and conservationists solve mysteries of the past through discovering and preserving lost facts and evidence when Jacksonport State Park Museum in Newport opens a new exhibit on March 2.

The exhibit, “The Jacksonport Collection Calamity,” features artifacts from the park’s collection. Visitors will follow clues in the stories of Jackson County’s past and match them to artifacts in the Evidence Locker.

Several artifacts featured in the exhibit have never seen by the public. In addition, the rare Thomas Todd Tunstall Bowie knife will be on display.  Presented to the founder of Jacksonport in 1833 by Resin Bowie himself, this unique artifact will return to Jacksonport through a generous loan from the Saunders Museum of Berryville.

In conjunction with the exhibit opening, Jacksonport State Park Museum hosts “Stuff and Stories” on March 2 as well. The come-and-go event is an opportunity for the public to bring their treasures and artifacts and share the stories behind the items. For safety reasons, park staff asks that no firearms or hazardous materials be brought to the event.
