Music Takes Center Stage in August in the Arkansas Delta

07/31/2014

August is a music-filled month in the Arkansas Delta. If you love music, you have some great options to enjoy in August.

The 4th annual Johnny Cash Music Festival concert will be held on Aug. 15 at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro. This year’s performers include Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Bobby Bare and Mark Lowry, who will serve as host of the event. As in past years, the proceeds from the festival helps fund restoration of the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess and supports a scholarship fund established in Cash’s name. In conjunction with the Johnny Cash Music Festival, the grand opening of Historic Dyess Colony: Boyhood Home of Johnny Cash in Dyess is being  held on Aug. 16. Many members of the Cash family will be on hand to celebrate the official opening of the complex.

There are other great musical offerings this month, including Drake White & The Big Fire in concert at the Grand Prairie Center in Stuttgart on Aug. 16, kicking off the center’s 2014-2015 Performance Series. Award-winning country music songstress Martina McBride, member of the Grand Ole Opry and three-time Country Music Association female vocalist of the year, plays the EACC Fine Arts Center in Forrest City on Aug. 29 as part of the facility’s 5th anniversary celebration.
