Start the year off with music

Plato wrote “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”

Music is the soundtrack of our lives. In January, two great musical performances are being offered in the Arkansas Delta.

Three Dog Night dominated the charts in the early 1970s, enjoying 21 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits. Led by the band’s founder, Danny Hutton, the band performs more than 75 shows a year, perfectly re-creating their larger than life songs, including “Joy to The World,” “Shambala,” “Mama Told Me (Not To Come),” “One” and others from great songwriters as Harry Nilsson, Hoyt Axton, Paul Williams and Randy Newman. Three Dog Night performs at the EACC Fine Arts Center in Forrest City on Jan. 21. 

For nearly five decades, the Bee Gees (comprised of brothers Maurice, Robin and Barry Gibb) enjoyed a musical career on an international level, longer than any other group in pop music history. The brothers and their music take center stage in Night Fever: A Tribute to the Bee Gees. The vocal stylings of Night Fever’s John Acosta, Joe Varga, and Carm Castiglione create an eerie sense of seeing the brothers Gibb in concert. Night Fever is an all-Canadian cast from Ontario, backed by professional studio musicians, that captures the sound and look of the Bee Gees. Night Fever comes to the Arkansas Delta on Jan. 26 as part of the Warfield Concerts series in Helena-West Helena.
