Time to Rock ‘N’ Roll in Pocahontas!
The Rock ‘N’ Roll Highway 67 Music Festival kicks-off Thursday, Oct. 2, in Pocahontas with Bop the Square. The event gives visitors and residents a chance to visit historic downtown Pocahontas and the area merchants, who are open extended hours. The event is based on the monthly downtown event, Stroll the Square, but with a 50s and 60s “vibe!” Bop the Square takes place from 6-8 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 3, is the annual Sock Hop celebration from 6-9 p.m. The Sock Hop is hosted by the Randolph County Heritage Dancers, with DJ services provided by Sound Xtreme. Special guests “The Boomers” will provide entertainment. So grab your poodle skirt, your leather jacket and your saddle oxfords and head to the square! Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. During the Sock Hop, the Randolph County Heritage Dancers will be selling old-fashioned floats to raise money to add a lift in Pocahontas’ historic courthouse. After the dance, head to the Downtown Playhouse (the former Imperial Theater) for a Haunted Tour of Downtown Pocahontas. Cost is $5 and all proceeds benefit the Five Rivers Historic Preservation.
Saturday’s events begin with the 5k at 9 a.m., with vendors opening at 10 a.m. Activities include a motorcycle run, an open mic competition, food vendors, kids activities, arts and crafts, and much more. Music starts from the stage at noon with a performance by the Boomers. At 1 p.m., it’s the Randolph County Humane Society Doggie Fashion Show, followed by the Marr Street Jam and the open mic competition at 3 p.m. Allison’s Rage performs at 5 p.m. Tom & Hebron take the stage at 6:30 p.m. and headliners Cash’d Out are slated for 8:30.
