“Tomatoes at the Trotter” is Tuesday’s Tasty Treat
The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s lovely bed and breakfast, the Trotter House, offers “Tomatoes at the Trotter” on Tuesday, July 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $25. The meal is being prepared by Chef Doug Spharler of Aramark Food Services and will feature a full tomato dinner, as well as an heirloom tomato tasting.

Heirloom tomatoes have been a favorite for foodies over the past few years and I’ve often wondered what makes a tomato an heirloom. To be considered an heirloom variety, the tomato must be an open-pollinated traditional variety that’s at least 50 years old.

Also on the agenda for the evening is speaker Leah Forrest Sexton, who will discuss her recently completed thesis on the historical impact of the pink tomato industry on southeast Arkansas.
