Lower White River Museum State Park Offers Geocaching 101 Workshop

Geocaching is a modern, high-tech scavenger hunt that uses Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates to locate “hidden treasure” placed at a specific location. The geocaches range in difficulty from simple to complicated and in size from micro to extremely large.

The Lower White River Museum State Park in Des Arc is hosting a Geocaching 101 workshop on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Geocaching is a fun and exciting way to spend some time outdoors with family and friends.

During the workshop, participants practice using a GPS unit, learn the basics of geocaching, and how to use a GPS unit for locating geocaches. GPS units will be provided or participants can bring their own.

This is a great opportunity for those wanting to learn more about the hobby. There are over 13,000 geocaches located in Arkansas, including the Great River Road caches sponsored by Arkansas Tourism. I’ll be leading the workshop, and I’ll share information about how geocaches can also be used by businesses and communities to draw visitors to specific locations.
