Official Poster for 30th King Biscuit Unveiled
The King Biscuit Blues Festival celebrates 30 years this October in historic downtown Helena. King Biscuit is, of course, recognized for the hottest sounds in contemporary and traditional blues music. But the event is also known for its annual collectible poster, featuring the winning artist from the festival’s yearly poster contest.
This year’s winner is Rebecca Ann Edwards of New Orleans, La. The work features the iconic image of Sonny Boy Williamson and his harmonica, along with the drum from the original “King Biscuit Time” radio show. In the background, historic Cherry Street in downtown Helena is displayed.
Edwards was born in Jackson, Miss., and grew up in Memphis, Tenn. She attended Delta State University, where she studied design. She lives in New Orleans, has a small studio and sells her artwork in Jackson Square and a gallery on Julia St.
Edwards’ winning poster will be featured on official King Biscuit Blues Festival merchandise. The dates for the 2015 KBBF are Oct. 7-10.
