Things to do in El Dorado
Downtown is the historic heart of El Dorado, with dozens of shops, stores, restaurants, and nightlife options located near the stately 1928 Union County Courthouse. Beautiful turn-of-the-century architecture and picturesque storefronts connect a diverse mix of specialty shops that sell everything from antiques to art.
Downtown is home to Oil Heritage Park, which pays homage to the city's boom-town history. The city is also home to the Murphy Arts District (MAD), a state-of-the art music and entertainment complex. The city has many cultural offerings including the South Arkansas Arts Center, the South Arkansas Symphony and the Newton House Museum.
In El Dorado is also the South Arkansas Arboretum , Arkansas' 50th state park. This park preserves the flora and fauna of the West Gulf Coastal Plain, the natural division that covers most of southern Arkansas. The park is operated by South Arkansas Community College.
The nearby town of Smackover is home base to the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources, where visitors can learn more about the South Arkansas oil boom.
