Eclipse Talk
What to know
“Midday sunshine will turn instantly to the darkness of night…nocturnal animals will emerge as if evening has fallen…the air will cool perhaps 15 degrees, and a slight breeze will blow as in the cool of night on this April 8, 2024, less than a year from now. The moon, moving eastward about its own diameter each hour, will slowly pass directly in front of the bright sun overhead shortly after noon, and block its light out nearly entirely for slightly over four minutes – one of the longest Total Solar Eclipses in North American history.”
This is a quote from Dr. Clay Sherrod of the Arkansas Sky Observatories on Petit Jean Mountain. He is traveling around the state to inform its citizens that Arkansas will see an influx of visitors in the hundreds of thousands in the week leading up to this great eclipse, and is advising us to be prepared!
Dr. Sherrod is an astronomical researcher and consultant. He has published hundreds of papers in scientific journals worldwide, and has 40 published books in archeology, meteorology, climatology, astronomy, and biomedical research.
The Bulls Shoals Library is proud to
present Dr. Clay Sherrod on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.
