Delta Heritage Trail State Park
What to know
Railroad historian Barton Jennings recently completed the perfect companion to your next hike or ride on Delta Heritage Trail. His new book
"Delta Heritage Trail (Missouri Pacific's Wynne Subdivision): History Through the Miles" explores the rich history of the trail. He has firsthand knowledge of the trail's railroad legacy as a former railroad employee whose territory included much of the trail when it was an active rail line. Additionally shared is his extensive research on the early days of railroad operations such as the location of businesses that relied on it, passenger train depots, and points out where these were formerly on the trail. The book is not limited to railroad history as it also explores as it relates to
Civil
War battle sites, establishment of communities, and the transformation of the
Delta landscape from forests to agriculture. You will never think of Delta Heritage Trail in the same way again after Barton shares this legacy with you. Stop by the visitor center between 1-4 p.m. when Barton will be available to discuss the book and personally sign your copy. Copies will be available for purchase at the event.
