Eberts Field (Closed)

What to know

This is a former military airfield that was established in 1917 after the United States entered World War I. It was one of 32 such Air Service training camps. At one point during the war, approximately 1,500 military personnel worked at Eberts Field and more than 1,000 cadets received aviator training on the JN-4D “Flying Jenny” aircraft. In World War II, the airfield was used as a contract glider training center until it was closed in 1943. Eberts Field was named for Signal Corps Captain Melchoir Eberts, a native Arkansan, West Point cadet and WWI service member.
