The Adventures of Steamboat Captain Morgan Bateman
Jacksonport State Park
What to know
Captain Bateman had a long and industrious career hauling freight upriver and raw products downstream. During the Civil War, he and his steamboat "Mary Patterson" provided transport for the Jackson Guards and protection for the town of Jacksonport. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the importance of steamboat travel in opening up Arkansas to new towns and settlements along the Black and White Rivers.
