Heart and Soul on Paper: Last Words and Letters of Confederate Soldiers

Jacksonport State Park

What to know

Death was very real for soldiers during the Civil War. Sometimes soldiers knew they would not survive their injuries and summoned a friend to help send messages to loved ones, but other times soldiers had no idea they were writing their last letters. Join a park interpreter in the Jackson Guard Monument to hear a selection of the last messages sent from Confederate soldiers to loved ones back home.
