Friends of Hobbs Speaker Series: Ozark Chinquapin Helpers - Birds and Bugs

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area

What to know

Joe Neal studied and photographed the birds and insects that visited the fragrant male catkins on the Ozark chinquapin trees planted at Hobbs State Park. Neal’s interesting observations will reveal the numerous pollinators drawn to the Ozark chinquapin as well as the specific birds that eat those pollinators. There is much to learn about the Ozark chinquapin tree since the blight killed most of them almost 65 years ago. This study is new data that Neal has not yet shared with the public. Learning more about Ozark chinquapin pollinators will help with restoring this once important tree to its native range. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
