100 Years Since the Smackover Field Discovery

You are invited to visit the museum and view our new temporary exhibit, DISCOVERY! 100th Anniversary of the Smackover Field." The exhibit features archival photographs and newspaper articles describing primarily the Richardson and Burton discovery wells. Along with this printed material, the exhibition includes authentic pieces of the Richardson No. 1 Well, as well as oil field tools and equipment of the period from our collection. Mp3 audio players allow visitors to hear excerpts from oral history interviews with participants of and witnesses to the South Arkansas Oil Boom; this is the first time we have incorporated this in-house technology into one of our exhibits. We anticipate displaying DISCOVERY! for the remainder of 2022.
