The Busey Well: The 100 Year Anniversary of the South Arkansas Oil Boom

Schools are out and state parks are in. Join park interpreters at the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources for an hour of excitement. You can explore the story of the Busey No. 1 oil well that was Arkansas’s first successful discovery well, although others were present a year earlier. Learn of its short life of 45 days, along with its oil production and the excitement it brought to south Arkansas and its people. Next, have fun building your very own version of the 1921 Busey well with straws, tape and supplied materials.
Due to the limit of 20 participants, registration is required. Please call (870) 725-2877 to reserve a spot. If this session is full, there will be scavenger hunts, as well as a new Junior Ranger program that will be offered for you to complete at your own pace.
