"Christmas Trees," Dobros and Pipeline Pigs

Museum Lobby

What to know

At the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources, we offer interactive programs that explore the history of the 1920s south Arkansas oil boom. Can you find the piece of oil field equipment called a “Christmas Tree?" And why is it called a “Christmas Tree?"  And what is a “dobro”? Join us at the museum and find out the answers to these questions. Discover the dramatic story of the rush for black gold, as we search for unique artifacts both on the museum’s Boomtown Street and in the Oil Park. As we explore, you
will learn about the tumultuous times through which people lived during the discovery and search for oil in south Arkansas. Please contact the museum for more information at (870) 725-2877. Covid-19 guidelines will be in effect for guest and staff safety.
