What to know

Island 40 Chute, an old Mississippi River cutoff that has narrowed into a 4.5-mile-long lake, north of West Memphis. Marshy lands and cypress trees dominate the area. Fishing: Bass, catfish and smaller panfish are popular. The only access and boat launch is from Mound City, north of West Memphis, then Gammon Road north about five miles.
