Arkansas Trails Day Planned for June

The Arkansas Trails Council, which provides a public forum for members of the trails community and serves as an organized voice for trails advocacy within the state, met recently at the Tyler Bend Recreation Area of the Buffalo National River. The highlight of the agenda was planning for Arkansas Trails Day and voting for the recipients of several annual awards to be presented at that event – Trails Volunteer, Trails Advocate, and Trails Professional of the Year.

This year’s event will be held at Pinnacle Mountain State Park in the West Summit picnic area on Saturday, June 12th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Booths will be set up representing government agencies responsible for trails, trail advocacy and user groups, and outdoor outfitters. Have fun while you learn about trails and participate in trail events hosted throughout the day. Celebrate with us as the annual awards are presented mid-day at center stage during the festivities.

Trails provide many benefits within our great Natural State including recreation, health / fitness, wildlife observation, alternate transportation, and tourism. Diverse trail types like hiking, bicycling, equestrian, river, and off highway vehicle trails represent just a few of the trails available in Arkansas. There are even trails in the air!

Smokey the Bear and Resource Raccoon will be making appearances throughout the day to provide fun, laughter, and educational benefits.

Please join the Arkansas Trails Council as we celebrate Arkansas trails and promote public awareness of our trail system and its many benefits.
