The Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources Oil Field Park comes to life each Friday and Saturday night until Dec. 23 for "Holiday Light Extravaganza" in Smackover. Hours are from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and each lighted scene represents the sights of the winter holiday season. Visit the Ice Castle and then warm up with a cup of hot cocoa in the museum gift shop. The 31st annual Christmas Parade and Courthouse Lighting Ceremony is Dec. 3 in De Queen.The event has a parade, Christmas trees, and a courthouse lighting ceremony. De Queen is within 20 miles of three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lakes, earning it the nickname, "Heart of Tri-Lakes Country." For more details call 870-548-3225.

Enjoy a historic holiday scene during the 25th annual Christmas & Candlelight Dec. 3 and 10. Homes in the park are adorned with pine cones, grapevines, magnolia and evergreens and candlelit streets provide a path to stroll through the restored village. Daylight tours are from 1p.m.-5 p.m. and candlelight tours begin at 5 p.m. when thousands of luminaries are lit. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 14 and younger. The 27th annual Main Street Texarkana Christmas Parade is Dec. 8 in Texarkana. The parade rolls downtown at 7 p.m.Honored parade marshals are three live camels. More than 100 entries are expected including lighted floats, bands, and Santa. A tree lighting ceremony and caroling follows the parade. Horse-drawn buggy rides are also available through the season. Experience a holiday classic during a South Arkansas Symphony production of The Nutcracker Dec. 10 in El Dorado. The play tells the story of a magical destination filled with children, toy soldiers, mischievous mice, waltzing snowflakes and dancing from the Shreveport Ballet. Holiday in the Park at Moro Bay State Park is Dec. 16-17 in Jersey.Celebrate the holiday season by taking in the history and natural beauty of the Moro Bay area. During the event, campers fill the campground with Christmas lights and decorations. Visitors are allowed to drive through and preview the lights onDec. 16. The following day the park is closed to drive through traffic for the main event. Hayrides along a candle lit path to the decorated campground are available and visitors vote on the best decorated campsite and cabin. Admission is $2 or a donation of a small toy or canned food.
