Join the staff of Parkin Archeological State Park in Parkin on Jan. 8 for a Primitive Pottery Workshop. The workshop focuses on the ancient craft and the methods used to make a variety of pots. Participants make their own pottery vessels, using natural materials from the nearby St. Francis River. To learn more contact the park at 870-755-2500. Admission is $25.

Paragould offers live music each month with WoodSongs, KASU’S Blue Monday and Bluegrass Monday events. Inspired by the national public radio program “Michael Johnathon’s Old-Time Radio Show,” WoodSongs is a local venue for songwriters and performers and is held the second Saturday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The next performance date is Jan. 8. Blues and jazz performers from the region perform the third Monday of each month in downtown Paragould for KASU’s Blue Monday. The next Blue Monday is slated for Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. KASU hosts Bluegrass Monday on Jan. 24 at the historic Collins Theater, featuring an open jam session for local musicians at 5 p.m. followed by a live bluegrass concert at 7 p.m. WoodSongs and Blue Monday are held at the Red Goose Deli in downtown Paragould. Tatting was a very popular style of making lace during the Victorian era. The Lower White River Museum State Park in Des Arc hosts an Intermediate Tatting workshop on Jan. 15, focusing on advanced methods of the process. Cost of the class is $10 and includes all material. Learn how Native Americans’ weaponry expanded and evolved through time as Parkin Archeological State Park in Parkin hosts a Primitive Weapons Workshop on Jan. 22. Workshop topics include primitive technology skills and the changes in weaponry over time.Reservations are required. Admission is $25. Call 870-755-2500 for questions or to make reservations.

Youth groups and their leaders need to make plans to hit the trails at Cane Creek State Park in Star City in January for the 3rd annual Flapjack 20 on Jan. 28-29. The Flapjack 20 is a night time 20-mile hike on the Cane Creek Lake Trail. After a night of hiking, participants enjoy a pancake breakfast with all the trimmings! The event is free.
