Explore the changing seasons of the Ozark Mountains during the Fall Splendor Boat Tour offered Nov. 1 at Lake Fort Smith State Park in Mountainburg. Cruise along Frog Bayou on a pontoon boat with a park interpreter leading the tour. Park staff suggests participants bring a hat and jacket for this outdoor excursion. The tour may be cancelled in the case of the inclement weather or high wind. Reservations are recommended. The cost is $8.50 for adults and $4.50 for children ages 6-12. Join a park interpreter for a guided walk of discovery on Nov. 1 during the Big Bluff Trail Fall Foliage Hike at Bull Shoals-White River State Park in Bull Shoals. The trail winds through the forest to the bluff overlooking the White River. Closed-toe shoes and a water bottle are suggested. Admission is free. The 63rd annual Original Ozark Folk Festival will take place Nov. 5-8 in Eureka Springs. The event includes folk music, folk arts, folk crafts and more. The 7th annual Foothills Festival will be held in Black Rock on Nov. 6-8. The event features the Show and Shine Antique Car Show, lawn mower races with amateur and professional categories, a quilt show, live entertainment, a pancake breakfast, and a ham and bean supper. A Cemetery Symposium, sponsored by the Searcy County Historical Society, will be offered Nov. 7 in the town of Marshall. Four speakers will address Arkansas cemetery law, assistance and organization in preserving old cemeteries, problems in locating graves, and grave location technology, especially using ground penetrating radar. The cost is $10 for the day or $5 for half a day. A 78-page document of Arkansas cemetery law and cases will be available for $2. The meeting will be at the Petit Jean Electrical Co-op building, located at 672 Airport Road. Seating is limited to 100. Outdoor enthusiasts with a competitive edge should mark their calendars for Nov. 7 to take part in the Lewis & Clark Urban Adventure Race in Fayetteville. The race consists of orienteering, mountain biking, trekking, water elements, rope work, and mystery events. Individual and two-person teams will navigate using a map and compass to checkpoints along the course, which will cover wooded and urban terrain in the Fayetteville and Springdale city limits. Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View offers two distinct events the second weekend in November. The Fall Bluegrass Festival will be Nov. 12-14 and is sponsored by the Mountain View Bluegrass Association. Visit www.mountainview-bluegrass.com for a list of performers. The park’s Handmade Christmas Folk School is set for Nov. 13-15. Participants learn how to make herbal ornaments, homemade soaps, sew aprons, old-time Santas, baskets, dolls and more. Davidsonville Historic State Park in Pocahontas will host a Surviving in the Wilderness Workshop on Nov. 14. The holiday season brings two unique opportunities to visitors of Blanchard Springs Caverns in Mountain View. A special four-hour tour to photograph the upper level of the caverns will be offered Nov. 22. The Dripstone Photo Tour is limited to the first 10 people who return advance payment. It is not an instructional tour. Participants should bring their own tripod, cameras and a light jacket.
