The town’s existence is a result of one of the largest oil discoveries in the nation. Its sixty-eight-square-mile oil field led the nation’s oil output in the mid 1920s. Prior to the discovery of oil, economy in the area initially relied upon cotton and a successful timber industry due to the vast forests of southern Arkansas. For more information on the event call the museum at 870-725-2877.

One of the largest dinosaur trackways in the world was discovered a few miles from town. For more information on the event, contact Nikki Cherry at 870-845-7405.
