A Gathering for Reading of the Declaration of Independence and Louisianan Purchase State Park Guided Hike

What better time to explore the historical significance of Louisiana Purchase State Park than July 4th? Your journey will start at the trailhead for a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Then we will venture out into the swamp with a park interpreter for a guided hike on an elevated barrier free boardwalk shaded by bald cypress and water tupelo trees. Our short hike lasting about 45 minutes covering 0.5-mile will take us to a granite monument commemorating the first initial point created in 1815 to survey lands in the Louisiana Purchase. Along the way you will discover how the initial point has played a role in the development of the United States and casts its shadow even today. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellant. Dress to be outdoors and have comfortable footwear for hiking.
