Arkansas Tourism Web Site Adds Feature for Motorcyclists
*****
LITTLE ROCK -- Motorcyclists are having an increasing impact on Arkansas tourism, a fact evidenced by their growing numbers on the state's scenic highways, particularly on weekends, and by the popularity of annual events -- such as Helena's Wild Hog Music Fest and Motorcycle Rally and Fayetteville's Bikes, Blues & BBQ festival -- that are marketed primarily to bikers.
"Motorcycling has clearly been a growth segment for Arkansas' tourism industry," Arkansas Tourism Director Joe David Rice said recently, "and with more riders discovering our events designed for them and Arkansas' great scenic byways and back roads, there's every reason to expect that trend to continue."
In an effort to further promote Natural State motorcycling, Rice said, a new element has been added to state's official tourism Web site, www.arkansas.com. It will allow any interested person to receive e-mails about major events within the state that are primarily designed to attract motorcyclists and to receive other news of interest on motorcycle tourism.
"We're optimistic that this new feature will generate additional travel to and within Arkansas using our existing resources," Rice said. "And," he added, "from a business standpoint, it's worth noting that those traveling by motorcycle usually dine out and seek lodging, thus contributing to local economies."
