79th Annual Mt. Nebo Chicken Fry is A Legacy of Flavor and Fellowship

On August 29, 2026, the historic summit of Mt. Nebo State Park will once again host one of Arkansas’ most enduring traditions. Since its inception in 1948, the Mt. Nebo Chicken Fry has served as a cornerstone event for the River Valley, blending the region's rich poultry heritage with a day of community service and spirited family fun for the whole community.

The festival’s signature draw is by far the famous chicken dinners. Prepared by award-winning cooks and a dedicated team of Chamber volunteers, the menu features classic chicken strips, smoked chicken and all the traditional fixings. These meals do more than feed the crowd. They fuel the community, as proceeds are distributed to local organizations that support the growth and well-being of the Dardanelle and Yell County areas.

Attendees can expect a full schedule of time-honored activities. The morning kicks off with the Chicken Fried 10K, a challenging race hosted by the River Valley Runners that offers participants a rigorous climb rewarded by breathtaking views. Throughout the day, the park will buzz with live musical performances, carriage rides and the quirky, fan-favorite chicken-calling contest. For the younger guests, the Kids’ Zone will feature a variety of crafts, games and the crowning of this year's Little Miss Pullet and Little Mister Rooster.

Living up to its familiar refrain, “Chicken, Pickin’, and Politickin’,” the event remains a place where young and old, everyone feels welcome. For nearly eight decades, the Chicken Fry has served as a place where neighbors share a plate and a dance.

Building on the success of previous years, the festival continues to be a major fundraising engine. Last year’s event saw more than 700 chicken dinners served and a record-breaking $4,000 raised during the annual pie auction specifically for summer student meals. With the 79th year now underway, the Dardanelle Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to ascend the mountain to experience the hospitality and history that earned this event a place in the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame.
