Lake Ouachita is one of the nesting grounds for the national bird, the majestic American Bald Eagle. In early spring they nest around Mountain Harbor Resort near Mount Ida. Eagle Weekends at Harbor takes place at the resort every weekend in February. The events include scenic viewing tours on party barges to try to catch a glimpse of these large carnivorous birds at play and at home in their treetop nests. Hot Springs has a bustling arts scene. Victorian and early 20th century galleries and artist studios attract art aficionados from around the world. February 3 is Gallery Walk, an opportunity for the public to stroll downtown and enjoy contemporary art. The art galleries stay open until 9 p.m., often with music and refreshments. The artists whose works are on display also turn out to chat with visitors to the galleries. February 17 is the Antique/Boutique Walk from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. scheduled for the Antique/Boutique Row (100-200) Block of Central Avenue downtown. Romantic Fools: An Evening of One-Act Plays is Feb. 10-12 and Feb. 17-19 in Hot Springs at the Pocket Community Theatre. This showcase consists of seven short plays by Rich Orloff and Jean Lenox Toddie. The plays offer insightful glimpses into courtship and other affairs. The seven short plays include Last-Minute Adjustments, Bride and Gloom, Off the Map, The Stepford Guy, Can This Marriage Be Saved?, Spaghetti Overture, and The Juice of Wild Strawberries. Performances are held Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10 or $5 through Grade 12. Eagle Watch Weekend is Feb. 25-26 at Lake Ouachita State Park in Mountain Pine. Bundle up, grab your binoculars, and hop aboard a tour boatin hopes of seeing our national symbol up close and in the wild. In addition to several lake tours, there are also other programs and activities in the park. Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12.
