Family Fun Day is March 5 at Cossatot River State-Park Natural Area in Wickes. At the event are wildlife stations with exhibits and programs for the young and old to explore. This park-natural area stretches for 12 miles along the wild and scenic Cossatot River, the state's premier whitewater river known as one of the best whitewater float streams in mid-America. Impress family and friends by learning new skills cooking in a Dutch oven during Dutch Oven Cooking Workshop March 12 at Lake Ouachita State Park in Mountain Pine. Dutch ovens are used for broiling, baking, boiling and even frying and almost any recipe can be adapted to cook outdoors. The three-hour workshop covers how to buy, season, and care for a Dutch oven. Participants get hands-on experience demonstrating different ways to cook while creating several dishes to sample. Registration is $25 and a deposit is required. Hot Springs hosts two adrenaline fueled races at Cedar Glades Park in March. The first is the Spa City 6-Hour Mountain Bike Race March 12. The race is the season opener for the Arkansas MTP Marathon Season. The second is the Du It in the Dirt Off Road Duathlon on March 13. The event is an off-road tri that entails a 1.8-mile trail run, a 10-mile mountain bike ride, and another 1.8-mile trail run. The First Ever Eighth annual World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade is always held on March 17 on historic Bridge Street in Hot Springs. Grand Marshall this year is actor John Corbett, known for his roles in Sex And The City and Northern Exposure. This is the first state championship ever held in Arkansas and the winner earns Premier Rating Points towards a possible Rating Invitation to the World Championship next August in San Diego.
