Marble Falls
Scenic Byways lead to Ozark Adventure
Tucked along Arkansas’ National Scenic 7 Byway, Marble Falls is a slice of classic Ozark country with a history that runs as deep as the stone it’s named for.
Although small, Marble Falls packs in plenty of natural beauty. Nearby hiking trails and river access points let visitors wander under towering bluffs and explore sections of the Buffalo National River, one of America’s first national rivers and a defining natural treasure of the Ozarks. The surrounding woods and ridges are dotted with hidden springs, scenic overlooks and quiet spots perfect for picnics, camping and soaking in some fresh mountain air.
If you’ve known Marble Falls by another name in the past, you’re not wrong – the community has seen a number of name changes over the years. Originally named Marble City for the marble quarried nearby, it was renamed to Wilcockson after the new postmaster in 1883. It’s most famous for its tenure as Dogpatch, home of theme park Dogpatch U.S.A.
Modern day explorers can expect both peace and play in Marble Falls – cozy cabins and rustic lodges offer a comfortable base, nearby historical markers tell the tales of bygone eras, and every turn on the Scenic 7 Byway invites a new discovery.
