Keep Arkansas Beautiful
Keep Arkansas Beautiful
Arkansas is known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant communities as The Natural State — and keeping it that way starts with the efforts of each person who lives or visits here. Keep Arkansas Beautiful (KAB) is a statewide program dedicated to fostering cleaner, greener communities through education, litter prevention and public engagement.
Keep Arkansas Beautiful operates as a division of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. Its mission? To inspire all Arkansans — residents, visitors, educators and youth alike — to play a role in maintaining the state’s scenic character, environmental health and quality of life.
At the center of KAB’s yearly calendar are signature initiatives like the spring Great American Cleanup and the fall Great Arkansas Cleanup, which rally thousands of volunteers across the state to clear miles of roadways, reclaim shorelines, remove illegal dumps and improve public spaces. For instance, participants cleaned more than 3,500 miles of roads, 503 parks and public areas and 146 miles of shoreline in just one Great Arkansas Cleanup event.
Keep Arkansas Beautiful engages elementary students, teachers and parents through the beloved mascot Otto the Otter and a suite of free classroom resources — workbooks, storybooks and interactive tools — designed to help children understand the importance of litter prevention, conservation and the benefits of trees in our communities.
Community groups, businesses and schools can also play a role year‑round: Adopt‑A‑Highway and Adopt‑A‑Street initiatives give teams the responsibility of keeping defined areas clean, while programs like “Eats & Clean Streets” help restaurants reduce packaging litter through signage and outreach.
Whether you're hosting a cleanup event, teaching a class, or just wanting to lend a helping hand, KAB provides the resources and platform to do so. From volunteer clean‑ups to school‑based initiatives, this is your invitation to foster real change in Arkansas.
