Foraging the Ozarks with Bo Brown

Join renowned Ozarks naturalist Bo Brown, author of Foraging the Ozarks, for an engaging introduction to the edible and useful plants of our region. A lifelong outdoorsman and educator, Bo has spent decades exploring the forests, fields, and waterways of the Ozarks, sharing practical knowledge and deep appreciation for the natural world. His book, Foraging the Ozarks, has become a trusted guide for both beginners and experienced foragers interested in learning more about the plants that surround us.

This program begins with an indoor presentation at the visitor center, where participants will learn how to identify common edible plants, explore their historical and cultural uses, and gain an understanding of responsible foraging practices. The presentation will be followed by an optional guided hike to observe and discuss plants in their natural habitat.

Please note that foraging is generally not permitted on public park lands, including Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area. The outdoor portion of this program is educational in nature and will focus on plant identification, ecology, and responsible stewardship. This program is presented in partnership with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
