How to get ghoulish as a grown-up

Halloween is traditionally for kids, sure, but that doesn’t mean adults don’t want to get in on the action. Here are a few Central Arkansas happenings that are sure to be a scream.

Adult Night at Boo at the Zoo

One of Arkansas’s favorite annual Halloween festivals is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! Boo at the Zoo’s Adult Night promises all the fun of the all-ages Boo at the Zoo—trick-or-treating, a haunted train and haunted houses, rides, inflatables, zombie paintball, food trucks, a costume contest and more—but with special libations and no wee ones to trip over in your complicated costumes.

The Conway Symphony Orchestra presents Ray Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree

This puppet theatre adaptation of fantasy author Ray Bradbury’s classic 1972 novel illuminates the history of Halloween with a combination of shadow and three-dimensional puppetry and live orchestral performance of original works by local composers. A 1993 animated film version of The Halloween Tree won Bradbury an Emmy; the CSO brings this inventive performance to Ron Robinson Theater.

Survive the Zombie Apocalypse with Science

The Museum of Discovery‘s popular monthly adult series, Science After Dark, is getting in the Halloween spirit with a special zombie-themed program for the last adult night of 2016. The museum, a well-respected science center, isn’t trying to suggest that a zombie apocalypse might ever take place…just that if there is one, science is the only thing that will save us. The event takes place Friday, Oct. 28 (note: Science After Dark is usually on Thursdays).

1st Annual Nightmare on Scott Street

Even in broad, summertime daylight, the historic Villa Marre mansion can look a tad spooky. So what better place to throw a monster bash? Couples and individual costume contests, DJ and dancing, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar.
