Petit Jean Antique Auto Show & Swap Meet Starts June 11

Located on the tree-shaded grounds of The Museum of Automobiles near Morrilton, the 54th annual Petit Jean Antique Auto Show & Swap Meet begins Tuesday, June 11 and runs through Saturday, June 15.

If you like antique cars, parts, and crafts, this is where you want to be the week of Father’s Day. In addition to hundreds of collectible cars for sale, there will be antique auto restoration supplies, and new and used car parts. Other related items that are fun to see include old license plates, automobile ads and literature, old auto related signs, and many other antiques and collectibles.

New this year is an Open Car Show, held on the west end of the Car Corral next to the Museum parking lot. If you want to get in on this action, registration is Saturday, June 15 from 8 a.m. to noon, with judging at noon.

This year’s special exhibit will be a 1955 Chrysler 300 2 Door Hardtop, owned by Bob Huff of St. Louis, Missouri.

Also enjoy the arts and crafts, and flea market section of the event. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge to the show. All 1,500 vendor spaces are sold out, so event planners expect a large turnout.

In addition to the show and swap meet, you can visit The Museum of Automobiles. This fascinating place is home to the only Climber automobiles known to exist. You’ll find a 1923 Climber Touring on display. There are also more than 50 vehicles ranging from a 1904 Oldsmobile French Front to a 1967 Ford Ranchero. Most of the vehicles date to before 1950.

The Museum of Automobiles opened on Oct. 18, 1964, and was founded by Winthrop Rockefeller. The late Governor’s 1951 Cadillac is on display here, as is his 1914 Cretor’s popcorn wagon; and his 1967 Cadillac with a sterling-silver Santa Gertrudis hood ornament.
