Three Days ‘Til Fayetteville Roots Festival

Fayetteville Roots Festival is just three days away! If you don’t have tickets, you’re about to miss out on one of the best music festivals in existence. And as if music weren’t enough, there’s food – local food – to enjoy too.
The festival takes place Aug. 22-25 and the main events are at the Walton Arts Center on Dickson Street in Fayetteville’s entertainment district. More music can be found at other festival venues such as Greenhouse Grille, Kingfish, and George’s Majestic Lounge.
The theme for food vendors is “Locally Sourced, Gourmet Festival Food.” Yeah, this isn’t your ordinary festival fare. The focus is on local farms and the local food scene in the community. Festival organizers partner with nearby farms to provide organic produce, all natural meats and eggs, flowers, food products and more. Then, partnering restaurants use this locally sourced food to prepare exclusive menus that are available at the main event area.
The festival food court will be open in the McBride Room at WAC on Friday and Saturday and will feature: Greenhouse Grille, Brick House Kitchen, Ella’s Restaurant and Pure Joy Ice Cream.
Those good folks who organize the festival also give back to their community. The Fayetteville Roots Festival has donated $8,400 to Feed Fayetteville over the past three years. Its mission is to alleviate hunger and create community food security by cultivating a local sustainable food network. That makes you feel as good as the music.
This Roots genre is an expressive style of music full of penetrating rhythms, riveting vocals, and incredible musicianship. This cultural lineage is built on by each artist for sounds that are unique yet familiar. Vocalists and musicians will not only force your foot into toe tapping, but will also make your emotions soar.
Headliners include Del McCoury Band, Iris Dement, Jerry Douglas, John Fullbright, Hayes Carll and Elephant Revival. About 40 artists will play on nine stages over four days. Don’t know some of the artists? Don’t worry. Just look forward to discovering them and many, many others you’ll come to know and love.
You’ll definitely get to hear some up and coming talent in the industry. John Fullbright, who played last year, was nominated for a Grammy this year (losing to Bonnie Raitt). He’s back for Roots Festival and you can be sure more people have heard of him now.
