Crocketts Bluff
Crocketts Bluff sits on the White River at the highest point in Arkansas County. The town is named for Capt. Robert Crockett, grandson of the famous David (Davey) Crockett. During the Civil War, Capt. Crockett recruited men in the vicinity for the Crockett Rifles (Company H, 1st Arkansas Infantry), the first Confederate company raised in Arkansas County and one of the first in the state.
During the second half of the nineteenth century, the community was a flourishing river port. Its location on the White River and the Grand Prairie region of Arkansas also have made it a popular place for hunting and fishing. A historic lodge built in 1938 and rebuilt in 1955, the Crocketts Bluff Hunting Lodge, is a symbol of the importance and popularity of duck hunting in the region and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
