Blytheville Air Force Base Exhibition
From its days as an Army Airfield until closing in 1992 as a major Strategic Air Command facility, the Blytheville Air Force Base (BAFB) told many stories. Hear those stories come to life from the soldiers who served at the BAFB Exhibition. See original furniture from the famous alert compound, pictures, uniforms & other memorabilia including a tribute to General Ira C. Eaker, namesake for the last official name of the base. Facts and stories are all yours to absorb just steps from the flight line where it all happened.
Alongside its permanent collection, there are temporary exhibits like Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission Poster Exhibition, J.W. Fulbright: The Arkansas Roots of a Cold Warrior, and Martha Graham and the Dance of American Diplomacy - all offering new perspectives on the global and cultural impact of the Cold War era. Perhaps the most powerful room in the museum, The Memorial Room relates personal stories of soldiers who survived as well as those of soldiers who gave their lives in warfare including a first-hand account of the event that took lives and sent others to the famed “Hanoi Hilton.”
In The Vision Room, visitors can get an exclusive look at artifacts and stories that will be featured in the National Cold War Center. Personal letters, mementos, and living history converge here, connecting past to future.
This BAFB is more than an exhibit; it’s the foundation for a larger, more ambitious and interactive story about the conflict that not only shaped a generation, but changed the world.
