50th Annual Hope Watermelon Fest: Half a Century of Sweet Traditions

There is nothing quite like a slice of ice-cold watermelon on a hot August afternoon, and in Hope, Arkansas, they have turned that simple pleasure into a half-century tradition. This year marks a major milestone as the Hope Watermelon Festival celebrates its 50th year from August 6 through August 8. What started decades ago as a way to show off the massive, record-breaking melons grown in local soil has blossomed into a homecoming that brings folks together from all over the region.

The 2026 festival is packed with the kind of down-home fun that makes memories. You can spend the day browsing through rows of arts and crafts, testing your skills in the Watermelon Olympics or cheering on your favorites at the Watermelon Idol talent contest. If you are feeling active, lace up your sneakers for the 5k race, or if you prefer something a bit more relaxed, you can wander through the car show while the kids burn off some energy in the Kidz Zone.

Of course, nobody goes hungry here. Local civic clubs will be serving up plates of smoky pulled pork and golden fried catfish that taste just like home. And because it is the big 50th anniversary, they are closing out the weekend with a bang. Country music powerhouse Gretchen Wilson is headlining the Saturday night concert at the Hope Fair Park grounds. Fresh off her win on The Masked Singer, she is bringing her "Still Here for the Party" tour to our stage to help celebrate five decades of community and tradition.

Festival Hours:

  • Thursday, Aug. 6: 12 p.m. – 9 p.m.

  • Friday, Aug. 7: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

  • Saturday, Aug. 8: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

The Saturday night concert gates open at 6 p.m. with the music starting at 7 p.m. Whether you are coming for the world-record-sized fruit, the high-energy music or just a cold slice of Arkansas’ finest, we cannot wait to see you in Hope to celebrate 50 years of the best festival around.
