Little Missouri River

The Little Missouri River begins in western Arkansas southeast of Mena, flowing freely through the Ouachita Mountains and scenic areas of the Ouachita National Forest that include the Little Missouri Falls and Albert Pike recreation areas. Some six miles north of Murfreesboro, Narrows Dam impounds its waters to form Lake Greeson. Below Greeson, the river flows past Murfreesboro before proceeding southeast to its mouth in the lower Ouachita River. About three miles south of Murfreesboro, the river passes beside Crater of Diamonds State Park, the world's only site where the public can search for diamonds where they naturally occur and keep their finds. Fishing: Above Lake Greeson, the Little Missouri draws anglers seeking smallmouth bass. Rainbow trout are stocked in cool season months at the Albert Pike area and below Narrows Dam, where some remain throughout the year. Below Lake Greeson, the river is best known among anglers for bass, catfish and bream. Along most of this stream, from the headwaters south of Big Fork to the backwaters of Lake Greeson and below the dam as well, you’ll find good action for smallmouth bass. Winter fishing is outstanding. The first float is from Albert Pike Recreation Area near Langley to Ark. 84, 8.5 miles of good smallmouth territory. The next section, Ark. 84 to Lake Greeson, covers 11 miles of smallmouth fishing paradise. Stream-running walleye are also found in the Lower and Upper Little Missouri.
