From Forested Peaks to Sparkling Water, Life Shines Brighter in Mountain Home
In the southern Ozarks, Mountain Home, Arkansas sits near two of the region’s largest lakes, nationally known trout streams and miles of hiking and biking trails. The outdoor lifestyle draws people from across the country. The downtown Baker District, good food, and friendly people keep them coming back.
On the Lakes and Rivers
The biggest visitor draw in Mountain Home is the water. Combined, Bull Shoals Lake and Norfork Lake make up more than 90,000 acres of pristine aquatic playground for anyone who loves to be on the water. Spend the day boating, skiing, wakeboarding or just floating with friends. Coldwater fishing is popular here, and anglers will find multiple species of trout. Bass, crappie and walleye fishing are also very popular with local anglers. Scuba divers can plunge into Norfork Lake to discover hidden underwater treasures like a sunken bridge, a bus, even an airplane.
The rivers have their own rhythm. The White River is regarded as one of the best trout fishing destinations in the country. Flowing into the White from beneath Norfork Dam, the North Fork River delivers equally phenomenal trout fishing such as the 38-pound brown trout caught in 1988. These rivers now draw anglers throughout the nation. Buffalo City, where the White and Buffalo Rivers meet, is a favorite spot for camping and fishing and a simply beautiful place to exhale and take in the view.
Trails, Bikes and Campsites
Some travelers would rather keep their feet on solid ground, and we typically find them on the trails. Mountain Home has road and offroad trails for hikers and riders of all skill levels. David’s Trail at Norfork Lake is a must for hikers, winding through wooded hills with options for both short walks and longer hikes up to 9 miles. At Bull Shoals-White River State Park, the Big Bluff and Lakeside trails reward hikers with sweeping water views and stretches of cool forest shade.
Mountain bikers typically make their way to Panther Bay Loop, Oakridge Mountain Bike Trail or the Pigeon Creek system, where they find 20+ miles of scenic, accessible trails. Campers have their pick of riverside spots, lakeside campgrounds and RV parks. For even more adventure, UTV and ATV riders can take advantage of designated areas around Pigeon Creek.
Hunting, Motorcycles and Golf
Hunting and being outdoors are part of the culture in Mountain Home. Whitetail deer and wild turkey are plentiful around the Ozarks, and nearby public lands make hunting season more accessible, so there’s no reason to miss the action.
Hunting scenic motorcycle routes instead? The Ozarks never disappoint, and some of the best known rides are near Mountain Home. Push Mountain Loop is a favorite route, with winding stretches and mountain views that attract riders from across the country.
For golfers, Mountain Home is a difficult place to leave behind. Big Creek Golf and Country Club has earned Golf Digest’s five-star rating for nearly two decades, with its pristine greens and fairways, known for being as challenging as it is beautiful. Twin Lakes Golf Course, with its rolling hills and tree-lined fairways, is on par with the The Natural State's most scenic courses.

While the outdoors are the main attraction, Mountain Home’s Baker District shows off the town’s personality. This quaint downtown district is full of local shops, art galleries, breweries and restaurants. The nightlife leans toward community events that bring everyone together.
