Constructed in 1916 as the headquarters for the Arkansas Chapter of the Knights and Daughters of Tabor, a national black fraternity. It was an anchor of Ninth Street, which was referred to as “Little Harlem” and served as the center of black business and culture until its decline in the 1960s. In the 1940s, one of the most popular places on Ninth Street was the Dreamland Ballroom, Such well-known entertainers as Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, and Earl Hines played here.
