What Qualifies as an Attraction/Listing?
An attraction is a place, site, or experience that provides visitors with a recreational, cultural, natural, or historical activity. Attractions must:
- Be open and accessible to the public.
- Offer a distinct experience that encourages leisure travel.
- Contribute to the promotion of Arkansas as a visitor destination.
Examples include: museums, historic sites, state parks, scenic trails, and agritourism & farm experiences.
What Does Not Qualify as an Attraction/Listing:
- Retail businesses (e.g., clothing shops, gift shops, malls).
- Restaurants or bars (unless part of a designated food trail, heritage program, or historically significant site).
- Lodging properties (e.g., hotels, motels, short-term rentals) unless they are historically or culturally significant.
- Service-oriented businesses (e.g., gas stations, banks, salons).
- Private or members-only locations not generally accessible to the public.
- Events (these may be submitted to the events calendar, not as attractions).
What Qualifies as an Event?
A tourism event is a prominent activity or gathering that:
- Is open to the general public.
- Is actively marketed to audiences statewide and/or nationwide.
- Provides an experience that would appeal to travelers beyond the local community.
- Showcases Arkansas’s cultural, recreational, or historical assets.
Examples include: festivals, seasonal celebrations, concerts, sporting events, and heritage events.
What Does Not Qualify as an Event:
The following do not qualify for listing as tourism events:
- Events closed to any segment of the public.
- Private gatherings (family reunions, class reunions, church functions, etc.).
- Retail sales, yard sales, or flea markets not tied to a broader tourism-focused event.
- Pageants (except statewide or regional competitions).
- Club meetings, book clubs, civic meetings, or similar recurring gatherings.
- Summer camp schedules.
- High school sporting or performing arts events.
- Conferences, trade shows, and graduations.
- Listings submitted without a valid website, social media profile, or other source of more information.
Content & Media Use
By submitting an event to Arkansas.com, you confirm that:
- You or your business own the rights to all written content and photos submitted.
- Arkansas Tourism may use submitted information and media for marketing purposes beyond the listing itself.
Submission Review
All attraction submissions are subject to review by the Arkansas Division of Tourism. The department reserves the right to approve, edit, or decline listings that do not meet these guidelines.
