Explore North Central Arkansas on the Sylamore Scenic Byway
Blanchard Springs Caverns in Fifty-SixThe picturesque Sylamore Scenic Byway passes through the white oak-hickory forests and stands of shortleaf pines found in the Ozark National Forest. The winding route offers views of limestone cliffs and mountain vistas. At its southern end, Blanchard Springs Caverns is open for tours; and pioneer mountain life comes alive in demonstrations of crafts, skills and folk music and dance at the Ozark Folk Center State Park, located in Mountain View five miles south of Allison. At its northern end, Calico Rock offers White River getaways, recreation opportunities and a ghost town.

Route: 26.5 miles

Starting at Blanchard Springs Caverns in Fifty-Six (35.959619, -92.200800), travel Arkansas State Highway 14 east to Allison. Right before the White River bridge in Allison, take a left onto Ark. 5 north. Follow all the way to the White River at Calico Rock (36.114619, -92.143552).

Things To Know:
  • While no designated scenic byways intersect with the Sylamore, several popular motorcycling routes are in the same area.
