Main Street Arkansas
Main streets represent the core of communities. Main Street Arkansas is a program for downtown commercial revitalization that is taking aim to make sure these downtown areas stay vibrant and viable. The program, which started in 1984 and is a project of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, has chapters across the state in place that are helping to revive community downtowns.
Both Rogers (a 2004 Great American Main Street city) and El Dorado (a 2009 Great American Main Street Awards winner) have won national accolades for their efforts. Siloam Springs was in the Final Four of a Parade Magazine poll of the Best Main Street in America. Main Street Texarkana is the only Bi-State Main Street Program in the U.S. And a program in Little Rock has been set up to help spread the word about SoMa ( Southside Main Street).
