Racing Festival of the South

The live race season at Oaklawn Park concludes with the Racing Festival of the South April 10-13 in Hot Springs. This is a big event for racing fans. Some of the country’s best Thoroughbreds will meet at Oaklawn for four days of stakes action, highlighted by the $1 million Arkansas Derby (April 13).  The field for the Arkansas Derby will be drawn tomorrow. The race is one of four stakes to be run on the closing-day card as part of the week-long Racing Festival of the South. Oaklawn will conduct its morning workouts and barn tour program, called Dawn at Oaklawn, each race day this week beginning tomorrow.

The Racing Festival of the South is legendary. Famous horses such as Zenyatta, Curlin, and Rachel Alexandra have all competed at Oaklawn during this event. As to an overview, the track consists of a one-mile dirt oval and features Thoroughbred races from late January through mid-April. It is one of the top tracks in the country, and in addition to its racing, the track is open year-round for simulcasting and electronic gaming operations.
